The greatest advantages of blastocyst transfer is the capability to decrease the risk of multiple pregnancy by transferring fewer embryos of larger quality. This is the reason that in old times, embryos were transferred to uterus within two to three days.

Benefits of blastocyst transfer for IVF

  1. An issue with above is that two to three day old embryos are usually in the fallopian tubes instead the uterus. The embryo enters to uterus after eighty hours of ovulation.
  2. Embryo implantation procedure starts after three days of blastocyst production and hatching out of the embryo shell have occurred.
  3. Hence if in vitro culture dish environments are extended to produce healthy blastocysts at the large rate, in this case fifth day blastocyst embryo transfer can be performed.
